SALEM to PORTLAND and WASHINGTON STATE LINE
After departing Salem, OR on this rainy afternoon, we pass the Willamette River Falls at Oregon City. These falls are interesting with lots of trees getting caught trying to go over the falls. From there we follow the Willamette to Portland. We cross the Willamette River before entering the yard and then into the station. Once we stop at Portland Union Station (PDX), Amtrake Cascades train 518 (headed by engine 16), departs the station after our arrival. Southbound train #11 powered by engines #43 and #9 (reverse of my train) arrives at PDX two hours late. Shortly after, our station stop ends and we head out, continuing north, crossing the Willamette River again, and the crosses the Washington State Line.

WASHINGTON STATE LINE to SEATTLE, WA (END OF THE TRIP)
After leaving POrtland, we venture across the Washington State line on a continuing rainy day. We cross the Columbia and Tuttle Rivers arriving at Tacoma, WA and a littl emore railfanning thorugh industrial areas and BNSF railyars. From Tacoma, we travel along Puget Sound. At one point we pass the Tacoma Narrows bridge. These twin spans replace the famous Galloping Gertie Bridge that collapsed so spectacularly in 1940 (see attached video). We continue to follow the Puget Sound as we arrive in Seattle passing Safeco Field (baseball) amd Century Link Field (football).
