CALIFORNIA STATE LINE to ROSEVILLE, CA
Entering California, the first town is Truckee which provides access to Lake Tahoe. Truckee is a small, quaint town with it's depot and main street of an old architectural style. The Truckee Railroad Museum is housed in an old Southern Pacific bay window caboose. We see some of the snow removal equipment used for clearing the mountain passes as we begin to climb the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. At the peak of the range, we cross the infamous Donner Pass. Believing the train crew no one will be eaten on this trip, we begin descending the Sierras passing several snow sheds and snowy areas around Castle Peak and Soda Springs. We finally reach the base of the Sierras when we reach Roseville, CA. This was once the home of the Southern Pacific's largest rail facility. Unfortunately, nothing exists anymore on the route we take into Roseville.

ROSEVILLE, CA to EMERYVILLE, CA
Leaving Roseville we cross theAmerican River heading to Sacremento, CA where we have a station stop for servicing. After departure, we cross the Sacremento River. As we approach the coast, we pass Suisun Bay, home of the US Navy mothball fleet. Continuing on, we briefly stop at Martinez where there is a static display of an old Southern Pacific steam engine. Continuing on we pass San Pablo Bay and then into Emeryville. Here the California Zephyr ends carrying passengers. After clearing the train, it heads to Oakland where it is cleaned and turned for the next day return trip.

DEPARTING EMERYVILLE, CA
Afer a long 5 hour wait in chilly and windy Emeryville, back to the station to wait for the Coast Starlight to arrive. Continually, varied local tains come through. As train #11 arrived, I had to leave the platform and did not get any additional photos or videos of the train arriving. The departure was late and this ends the day - April 26, 2018.
