Today's adventure begins with a weary beginning du to the lateness of last night's arrival.
It begins with breakfast in my home territory where they know how to stock a condiment bar.
We then headed north on I-49 (new to me since I used to travel these roads). We met our first
weather, some rain for the next 100 miles. The prevented us detouring for some Boudin or cracklins.
If you don't know what those are, I feel sorry for you.
We arrived in Shreveport on the wrong side of town to be able to swing by my old home in Bossier City.
We turn west onto I-20 and in 112 miles we enter Texas. Here the roller coaster ride begins....and I mean
roller coaster. The roadway had deteriorated so much since my days driving to Kilgore and Longview, old
oilfield towns. Teresa didn't expect any theme park roller coaster rides, but she did encounter about 2 1/2 hours.
I truly believe she set a record of about 2 seconds of weightless airtime on some of those bumps. That only
was a preview of the extremely stressful 1 1/2 hours to get around Dallas. Poor signage and overlapping signs
created the most stressful par of the trip. Once we cleared Dallas and turned north on I-35 I had my mental
breakdown. That's what prompted me to proclam, "What's with this Texas????"
In about an hour or so, we entered Oklahoma and amazingly the roads improved. This was my first visit to
Oklahoma, odd for a person who spent so many years in the oil industry. The scenery was lovely, green and
lush.
A short video clip while driving
The Oklahoma drive was pleasant and stree-free. Severl hours later, we entered Kansas. (Sory, no Wizard of Oz
jokes, those come on day 3). The contrast was significant in that Kansas was not as green and lush as Oklahoma. Again,
stress-free travel until we arrive late in the evening in Wichita, KS where we rested and got some needed sleep.
